Umbrella Uprising

publication: protest arts archive

Protest arts archival project started by Jeffrey Choy, along with a team of London-based artists and activists. Encompassing over 500 artworks relevant to the anti-extradition movement in Hong Kong 2019.

‘Umbrella Uprising: A Visual Documentation of the 2019 Hong Kong Protests’ was created to record this historical period through showcasing numerous artworks. It was crowdfunded on Kickstarter in 2020, partnered up with distribution partnerships such as Marston Book which connects the project with bookstores like Waterstones and Foyles. The book was sold for 7000+ copies.

The profits are used to fund the remaining stages of this ongoing project, which includes: further developing and organising future artworks in order to support Hong Kong pro-democracy movement.

As distribution partnerships ends, sales slows down, and we closed down the book’s website, there are a limited number of Umbrella Uprising left, if you would like to place an order please email umbrella@jeffreychoy.art.

The book is priced at £18-20, subject to shipping cost.
